Sony sets release date for 'Smurfs 2'

With more than $135 million already , Sony is working on a sequel to The Smurfs. Without wasting any time, the Studio revealed that Smurfs 2 will be released on Aug. 2, 2013. Jordan Kerner will produce this sequel. 


At the same time Sony are developing The Amazing Spiderman and its sequel so the question is whether Sony will be able to meet all deadlines or not ?

MI 4 will be released released in the theatres on December 2011 and it may possibly be the final installment for the Mission Impossible franchise. The cast includes Tom Cruise,Simon Pegg,Jeremy Renner,Paula Patton and Anil Kapoor. No further information is available. Splash News has posted these photos from the set of World War Z. Brad Pitt has been filming the zombie thriller in the seaside town of Falmouth in Cornwall, UK. The site says:

''Feeling the pinch of a cold British summer morning, Brad appeared wrapped up on board the yellow SD Salmoor where most of the filming is taking place. The admiralty salvage vessel was covered in wax and fake icicles plus a hoard of locals that were signed up as extras. The crew set sail to a nearby location and returned banging weapons and hollering for the camera''.

''Rise of the Planet of the Apes'' conquers the weekend

Rise of the Planet of the Apes won the box office battle and is now at the top. It climbed to the top with an estimated $54 million on approximately 5,400 screens at 3,648 locations, which ranked as the fifth highest-grossing August opening ever. The movie also  grossed another $23.4 million in 25 overseas markets to further push its worldwide limit  to $77.4 million after just one weekend.

 Among comparable movies, the franchise reboot's launch was superior to District 9's $37.4 million and Terminator Salvation's $42.6 million and close to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra's $54.7 million (on the same weekend in 2009). It even grossed more than I, Robot's $52.2 million (though sold fewer tickets) and was just a hair lower than X-Men: First Class's $55.1 million earlier this summer.

''Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes'' could cross $50M in its opening weekend

Rise of the Planet of the Apes scores a solid $19.8M  and is surpassing expectations.

The film is getting good buzz from most of the critics as Rotten Tomatoes declared the movie ''Fresh'' and many other critics have given it positive reviews.. Now, it seems that  it collected another $19.2M on Saturday, and it's expected to make between $53M-55M for the weekend. It was expected to earn $30M this weekend but it seems the movie truly is beyond our expectations. 

The Times named it as one of the best movies of 2011 so far. The film had a reported budget of $93M which is not a lot compared to The Green Lantern and Thor's budget but it still is becoming very successful even though its not in 3D like most high end films of this era.

Bryan Cranston to Join 'World War Z'

Bryan Cranston is in negotiations to join Paramount's World War Z, a post-apocalyptic thriller. He would have a small but flashy role in the film. The film is an adaptation of a Max Brooks novel of the same name that depicts a global zombie takeover a decade after the fact.


 The release date for the movie is not given but would be released in 2012. The film also includes Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos and James Badge Dale.

From a Kid to Adult : Corbin Bleu

For a while there it was pretty good to be one of the High School Musical kids. All of them fresh-faced and in their teens, all of them ridiculously famous and absurdly wealthy. it's not easy to get jobs as an adult when the whole world knew you as a singing and dancing teenager.


But Corbin Bleu is going to change is character completely for the new upcoming movie Nurse 3D.The Lionsgate horror project that was promoted recently with a completely crazy concept poster featuring star Paz de la Huerta, completely naked, soaked in blood, and wearing a nurse's hat.


  De la Huerta stars as a nurse who "uses her sexuality to indulge a sinister side that finds her punishing dishonest men," while Bleu will play a paramedic who gets caught up in one of her schemes. Katrina Bowden  will play Bleu's girlfriend.

'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' crosses a solid $1.25M in Midnight Shows

Reinforced by strong reviews, "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes" notched a solid $1.25 million in the midnight showings on Friday, according to the studio estimates. The James Franco-led prequel offered late-night screenings in a 1,124 locations. It will now expand to 3,648 theaters in the U.S. and Canada over the weekend.

 

 A Fox Exec says,

''It's a low-key start for a modest midnight opening of $1.254 million in only 1,124 North American locations for Fox's prequel Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes with CGI animals and James Franco. "It's a good start considering that Cowboys & Aliens had about $800K in midnights a week ago,".

With a solid opening night like this hopefully we will see a sequel in the near future. Until then make sure you go check out Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes in theaters.

''The Amazing Spiderman'' sequel scheduled for May 2014

Though audiences still have to wait until next July 3 for The Amazing Spider-Man to hit theaters, Sony has staked out a release date of May 2, 2014 for The Amazing Spider-Man's sequel.


 “It speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment,” says a studio source. No further information is revealed or made available at this point. So will Rhys Ifans’ The Lizard live to fight another day? Does Spidey take on a villain we’ve yet to see on screen, including the ones portrayed in the Sam Raimi trilogy? And if the studio wants to stick with titles inspired by the original comics, does Sony go withThe Spectacular Spider-Man or Web of Spider-Man for the sequel? The answers to these will be known in the coming years.

''The Amazing Spiderman 3D'' Overview and Photos

The Amazing Spider-Man, also known as The Amazing Spider-Man 3D, is an upcoming American superhero film based on the comic book of the same name that is currently in post-production. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and the first film in a rebooted Spider-Man film franchise. 


 The film is being directed by Marc Webb. The cast includes Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Peter Parker as he is developing his super powers in high school. It is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012.

Henry Cavill as Superman from Man of Steel

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have revealed the first photo of Henry Cavill as the new Superman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, in the process giving us a first look at the new Superman outfit. There's a move back to the more traditional red and larger 'S' logo over the look in Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns", on the flip side the little insignia pitting in the uniform has been exaggerated even more.

Apollo 18 is a Sci-Fi thriller and would be released on 2 September this year. It is directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and written by Brian Miller.  The movie's format is similar to that of paranormal activity as we can see from the trailer. The movie shows us lost footage from Apollo 18's undocumented and covert mission to the moon, revealing disturbing new evidence of other life forms.

Brian Kirk To Direct "Thor 2"

With Kenneth Branagh  refusing to direct a sequel to Thor, the search for a new director may have led to Irish auteur Brian Kirk who is best known for directing numerous episodes of the first season of HBO's hit series Game of Thrones. He is reportedly under major consideration to helm a Thor sequel for Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. With Thrones he has demonstrated a strong ability to handle a grounded but fantastical setting populated with a large ensemble cast and a rich complex mythology and so this choice may not be much of a surprise.


The Thor sequel would be released on a much grander scale with more action , more amount of Asgardian characters and more Norse mythology creatures and is currently slated for a late July 2013 release.

Synopsis

The Avengers spearhead a group of superheroes assembled by Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) and Tony Stark, CEO of Stark Enterprises (aka the Invincible Iron Man.)
With the rising number of mutant, alien, and super-human threats arising throughout the world, S.H.I.E.L.D. was created under UN-auspices and funded by the 8 Members of the Security Council with additional support provided by signatories of both NATO and the Warsaw Pact. It goes above and beyond the CIA, MI6, and the KGB to include intelligence-gathering and paramilitary forces to counter all threats to national sovereignty on Earth from sources mutant, paranormal, and extra-terrestrial.




The Avengers would consist of :



American industrialist Tony Stark developed Iron Man technology while being held captive by insurgents in central Asia where a terrorist attack resulted in a piece of shrapnel lodging in his heart. The tremendous supra-nuclear power-pak used to fuel his armor and weapons also keeps him alive, although he sabotages himself with alcohol and compulsive sexual behavior.

Florida's Clint Barton aka Hawkeye is the most highly trained modern soldier alive courtesy of American Special Forces. He drilled with Green Berets, Navy S.E.A.L.s, and Airborne Rangers giving him a mastery of explosive technology, which ironically he eschews in favor of a bow and various arrows of his design.

Natasha Romanov aka Black Widow is the Russian answer to Hawkeye, and before the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D. her main function was keeping tabs on her one-time lover now-opponent/target. She is a master of hand-to-hand combat and cybernetics, and is the last remaining descendant of the Russian czars.


Earths Mightiest Heroes are joined by Thor, the God of Thunder of Scandinavian legend who wields the most powerful weapon in the Universe: Mjolnerthe Hammer of the Gods of Asgard. He is anchored to this plane by his love for astronomer Dr. Jane Foster.

Last, but not least, their ranks are quite literally swelled by Dr. Bruce Banner whose alter-ego The Incredible Hulk is both The Avengers deadliest liability and potentially their most destructive asset.


They will be lead by Captain America. The only known survivor of a gamma-ray enhanced super-soldier serum, created by a former Nazi scientist in the 1940s, which helped 98-pound weakling Steve Rogers become the perfect physical specimen.He has been locked in a chunk of ice for the past 60 years until his rbeecent recovery from the North Atlantic by a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives.

Clash of the Titans Sequel, ''Wrath of the Titans''

Synopsis
A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus-the demigod son of Zeus-is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans.

Director Jonathan Liebesman has been filming the sequel in England and off the coast of Spain. The project has previously been known as Clash of the Titans 2.


Wrath of the Titans will be released on March 30th, 2012 and the cast includes Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Édgar Ramírez,Rosamund Pike, Toby Kebbell,Danny Huston but no Gemma Arterton which may be a heart breaking news for some of the fans.Gemma Arterton was originally supposed to return, but scheduling conflicts with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters prevented the actress from taking the role.

''Mark Steven Johnson'' takes a drive on the ''Autobahn''

Mark Steven Johnson, who also directed Ghost Rider and Daredevil, is now attached to direct Autobahn, an action film written by Greg Russo and produced by Inferno Entertainment. The project was originally titled I-95 and was set in the US, but was shifted to Germany in order to take advantage of the lack of speed limit and the international marketplace appeal. And quite possibly some BMW product placement/brand synergy.

THR (The Hollywood Reporter) reports that the film is about “a washed-up ex-Formula One driver who wakes up trapped inside a BMW on the side of the Autobahn, Germany’s famed high-speed roadway, which has no general speed limit. He answers a phone ringing in the glove box, only to be told that he has 90 minutes to deliver the bomb-rigged car to a target or his wife and daughter will be killed.”

Inferno is currently looking for actors to star and is planning to search for distributors at the American Film Market in November. 

The List of Stars who are to be in ''The Expendables 2''

The head of a Bulgarian film studio where The Expendables 2 is to start shooting in September has revealed a few new actors who are to appear in the the film.

''Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke. Who else? Of course, Bruce Willis,”  David Varod, CEO at Nu Boyana Studios, told news website Novanite in an interview.

As well as the addition of John Travolta and Chuck Norris to the list of stars, Varod also spoke of director Simon West.

“He is also a name. He is already here and has started working on the film,” Varod said, before adding. “I believe the sequel will be better than the first movie."

It was already widely reported that Jean Claude Van Damme was to be a secondary villain while Bruce Willis was to be the main baddie in the upcoming sequel.

''Dark of the Moon'' crosses the $1 billion mark globally

Transformers: Dark of the Moon has crossed the $1 Billion mark in the global box office on Tuesday after 35 days of its release. This made Dark of the Moon the first transformers movie to cross the $1 billion mark as well as Paramount's first $1 billion box office hit. The robot-alien blockbuster has earned $338.8 million domestically and $663 million overseas.

It is the third film to surpass $1 billion this summer, following Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. All those Micheal Bay haters might find this news a little shocking but in retrospect its one of the best Micheal Bay has to offer.

‘Shaolin’ Trailer: Deception, Redemption, & Ass-Kickin’ Shaolin Monks

Synopsis
As feuding warlords fight to expand their power, the noble monks of the Shaolin Temple clean up the mess left behind, tending to the injured while trying their best to protect the poor and weak. General Hou (Lau) has caused much of this mess with his violent and ruthless tactics that rarely discriminate between soldiers and civilians. ''Wolverine 2'' Villian revealed by Hugh Jackman

The 2011 San Diego Comic-Con is finally in full swing and there are plenty of movies, TV shows and comic books all clamoring for your attention and dollar.Hugh Jackman made a surprise appearance this morning to do a promotion for his upcoming fighting robot movie Real Steel, and during the Q&A time with the audience he dropped some pretty interesting bits of information regarding Wolverine 2 – namely who the main villain is and when they will start shooting the film.



 In June James Mangold  was announced as the man who will helm the second film – tentatively titled The Wolverine – after Darren Aronofsky stepped down. Though nothing had been confirmed we speculated a while back that one of the villains could potentially be the Silver Samurai and now thanks to Jackman we know this is the villain writer Chris McQuarrie has chosen.






The Silver Samurai (character’s “real” name is Kenuichio Harada) has a long history in the Marvel Universe and should make an admirable foe for Wolverine. Harada is actually the half-brother of Wolverine’s lover Mariko Yashida and he has major issues with her relationship with Wolverine. In the comics, Wolverine is trained in the ways of the samurai by Kenuichio and Mariko’s father Shingen and eventually joins Shingen’s Clan Yashida.

''Brendan Fraser Planning to Escape the Earth''

Recent animated family features transported audiences to the red planet, where Martians needed our mothers, and to the unusually suburban Planet 51. For the Weinstein Company’s next adventure, we’re apparently venturing to the fictional planet of Baab, where Brendan Fraser is worshipped as an intergalactic hero and Rob Corddry is the real brains behind the operation.

Fraser and Corddry are joining Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, James Gandolfini and Craig Robinson as the vocal talents in the 3D animated comedy Escape from Planet Earth, according to a release sent out by the studio. Callan Brunker, storyboard artist on Despicable Me and the underrated Horton Hears a Who!, is graduating to the director’s chair where he’ll tell the story of admired astronaut Scorch Supernova (Fraser) who embarks on a dangerous mission and is compromised, forcing his nerdy sibling, Gary (Corddry), to step up and be the hero.

"Escape From Planet Earth has got it all ... explosions, romance and a cast of hilarious aliens,"Brunker said of the project. "We are having a great time making it, which is coming across on the screen." It has been confirmed that Gandolfini will voice the the central villain, named Shanker; Alba will be Lena, the non-nonsense head of mission control at BASA; and Parker will be Gary’s adventurous wife, Kira.

We know space is the final frontier, but animated adventures set in distant galaxies are growing a little old. Given the title and the idea that Fraser’s character will have to be rescued from an “alien” location, however, I’m guessing the residents of the planet Baab land on the third rock from the sun, and will have to figure out how to get off of our planet. Escape will be released sometime next year.
